History & heritage
Water is the oldest cosmetic ingredient in human history — the base of every wash, tonic and lotion since antiquity. Modern cosmetic manufacturing uses deionised (DI) water, from which mineral ions and metal traces have been removed. This step, standardised in the mid-20th century, is what allows delicate botanical actives and modern surfactants to remain stable and predictable in a bottle for years.

Deionisation removes calcium, magnesium and iron ions that would otherwise react with surfactants (reducing foam) and oxidise botanical actives. Cosmetic-grade water is filtered by reverse osmosis, UV-sterilised and tested for endotoxins before use.
